Before you book
Completely. A large share of the people we treat are first-timers who thought about it for a year before booking, and most of the nerves are about ending up looking overdone. Say that out loud at your appointment — it changes how your injector plans the treatment, and starting conservative is always an option.
Not if the dose is right. The approach here is to use only what’s needed to soften a line while keeping your expression intact, and to start low. You can always add more at the two-week check; you can’t take it away. If you want to be able to raise your brows, say so — that’s a plan, not a complaint.
It depends on the area and how strong your muscles are. Roughly, the frown lines between the brows often take 20–25 units, the forehead 10–20, and crow’s feet 12–24 across both sides. Your injector counts and confirms the total with you before starting.
They all relax the same muscles; they differ in how quickly they start working and how long they last. One tends to kick in faster, one is the most studied and predictable, and some are formulated to last longer — which is why their per-unit prices and unit counts aren’t comparable. Your injector will suggest one based on your history and the area being treated.
Neurotoxins: essentially none — small bumps settle within hours. Filler: swelling for two to three days, worst the morning after. Gentle resurfacing: a day or two of pink, sandpapery skin. Deeper resurfacing: three to five days of redness and peeling. As a rule, don’t book anything within two weeks of a wedding or a big event.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding rule out injectables and most laser work. Laser treatments generally aren’t suitable on recently tanned skin, and some medications — isotretinoin, for example — mean waiting. Bring your medication list and we’ll sort it out before treating.
